Tram Driver

Purpose

Be able to drive an electric tram in Wendouree Parade, within the Botanic Gardens area of Ballarat and be able to share experiences and stories with our visitors. The position is available primarily during the weekend and school holidays, but also during the week for group visits.

Areas of Responsibility

Safe driving of the tram, be able to respond to incidents. Sell tickets and Souvenirs to visitors Be able to assist passengers on and off tramcars.

Tasks

Drive a vintage Ballarat Tram and be able to talk to our visitors and give them a pleasurable living history experience. At times, the driver may act as conductor - that is drive the tram by themselves. See also our web page: www.btm.org.au/volunteering.html

Objectives

Enjoy yourself, provide stories about Ballarat and its trams to passengers and further the work of the Ballarat Tramway Museum, be part of Ballarat's living history.

Special Requirements

Be willing to undertake a medical examination. Details will be provided at the time of meeting with us at the Museum. Membership of the Museum is necessary - $25 per annum.

Role Qualifications

Car Driving Licence.

Training/Supervision Provided

Training is undertaken to enable the driving of tramcars in Wendouree Parade. This consists of a minimum of 40 hours, spread over about 8 days. Initial training as a Conductor is provided as part of the course. Supervision is provided by Museum staff.
