Purpose
To support young people in police custody and, where appropriate, refer them to support services to lessen their chances of reoffending.
Areas of Responsibility
Attend callouts to Police Stations while on roster Support young people in police cusody Refer young people to support services where appropriate
Tasks
Independent Persons (IPs) sit in on police interviews with under 18 year olds in the absence of a parent or guardian and can also link the young people to support services to lessen their chances of reoffending.

Training/Supervision Provided
Free training of 28 hours is provided, covering legal and police processes and working with indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse young people.
